Ironbridge Power Station
JLC have successfully
undertaken a number of design and assessment commissions at
Ironbridge Power Station, including:
Design of a cooling water discharge
system to meet strict criteria enforced by NRA and HMIP.
The final product incorporates a
venturi flume for regulating flow, electronic measurement
device to monitor the amount , rate and temperature of the
discharge.
Drainage design for the disposal of
oil contaminated surface water into the river Severn.
This project was reported by the New Civil Engineer and has lead
to further commissions from other power generators.
After extensive fire damage to
the Turbine Building and Boiler in 1998, JLC were immediately on
site to assist with assessment of the damage areas.
The most extensive repair involved the design appraisal and
replacement of a 54m span, 115 tonne
capacity lattice box girder crane. The crane was
lifted into position at the 80m level, in a single operation,
using the largest capacity crane in the UK.
